Otunba Elegbleye Backs House Rep’s Parliamentary System of Government Bill, Says Presidential Too Expensive For Nigeria
Former House Representative Member from Ondo State, Otunba Gbenga Elegbeleye has supported the recently proposed bill of Parliamentary System of Government by Nigeria’s House of Representative Members as against the Country’s current pattern of governance ‘Presidential System’.
The Otunba Ikare of Ondo State was quizzed by Maxinews24.com regarding his views on the proposed bill, he said, “The Parliamentary System of Government is 100 percent perfect, I’m in full support. Those ruling Nigeria should be representatives of the people,” he affirmed.
“All these over bloated allowances by the Legislators will have to go down, meaning a Legislator will be paid this same thing as minister; the presidential system is too expensive for Nigeria,” Elegbeleye maintained.
Asking the debonair top Ondo State politician about the implication of the proposed parliamentary system of government on the presidential system currently in practice.
He said, “That means there would be complete devolution of power between the President and The Executives; as president would be less powerful while the parliament would be more powerful and the parliament are representatives of the people so that’s better,” he asserted.
It would be recalled that no fewer than 71 percent of members at Green Chamber stirred parliamentary system of government bill last week as this has generated tumultuous atmosphere within and outside the National Assembly.
